Glamour shots!

I haven't digitally painted since August and I was freaking out because every time I would pick up the tablet I was unable to crank anything out; it was like this for a very long time. So instead, I resorted to portraits! Just to get back into the grind. I'm still very much amateur-ish when it comes to lights and facial dynamics. Like where does this contour to where, what are values?!?! I'm scared of the value scale, I think.

Self-portrait because I looked cute tonight. I look so much like my mom here.

Self-indulgent portrait because I saw a male model that reminded me of this one character in Hetalia.

I'm currently working on a black & white short film and it's really hard to design a simple and effective character. Like who woulda thought it would be so stressful to design an old woman!?

Hope your week will go well! We're half-way through the month already!

Air pressure!

After a week long & wonderful vacation in Hawai'i, it's time to get back in the grind! I poorly sketched out some of the insides of the planes I rode & like a quick sketch of the Hyatt lobby. Though, majority of the hotels didn't really have "lobbies" as they were all out & exposed. I thought that was very cool. I want to go back to the islands, it's gorgeous. I didn't get to draw a lot since I was always out enjoying O'ahu, but here, have a look at things I doodled.

Some character designs. Right below is a martial artist practicing in the art of jujutsu. Her specialty is grappling.

Not sure what this is one is about.

Thomas & Katherine. A shy mortician & a very, very friendly ghost. (OH GOD WHAT DID I JUST WRITE.) Anyway, I have plans for these two, someday it'll be a short comic. Someday!

BLADERS

I'm really proud of myself with this one. It's so fun incorporating personalities into drawings. A little experiment I did over at tumblr with peoples' urls.

Lotsa portraits!

A bunch of heads I did for the Draw Yourself Meme over at tumblr. I was given 8 styles and I was to somehow replicate myself in that style. I hope I did okay. These were all done each very quickly, less than 2 hours per since I just wanted to get through them all. xD My fave would have to be Studio Ghibli, Spongebob, Boardwalk Empire and Legend of Korra designs. I think they were my favorite to draw. Too fun! And though humanoid figures are my favorite things to draw, I have to start doing environment studies so hopefully I'll be posting some scenery studies soon. ^_^

 Studio Ghibli
 Spongebob Squarepants
 Samurai Champloo
 Boardwalk Empire
 Gintama

I should probably find cooler post titles than just expressions, huh?

As many (2 people?) of you cool peeps have suspected, I have been photographing my stuff. My scanner is incompatible with my laptop and produces very poor quality images anyway. Plus, it doesn't fit most of my sketchbooks, so I use my digital camera as substitute. It gets the job done. :-) Anyway, some new weekly doodles! I think I should do this! Every end of the week-ish I would update this blog with doodles/sketches/ideas. It'll help me keep track of how often I draw and how intuitive I get with each stroke. Hmm, I think I want to digitally color the last two... Enjoy.

Yes!

I've been feeling very under the weather lately and I am so thankful (and so underserving) of great, great friends. They helped me get through some tough times and inspire me so much. Anyway, have a spam of sketches & ideas I've been working on. Hopefully they somehow spark some ideas of your own, too. :-)

Some Auletta, I like that her face is an oval. It gives a soft look to her nature (she is actually very sharp and a tough lady to be with.)

Some sketches of old ladies. I've been formulating a story between an old woman living alone that gets haunted by a child ghost. I'm really in love with this idea but I still can't quite figure out what the old lady will look like. I haven't even started on the child yet!

A fun scribble. Sometimes just doodling with a 2-3px brush size without any opacity or pressure sensitivity is fun.

This is supposed to be my Studio Ghibli-self. That I've been working on for 2 days. I have no idea line art was so hard. I mean, I know it's hard but making a crisp line is really, really difficult.

This is hard!

I don't think I'm cool enough to join http://cupodoodle.blogspot.com/ so instead I'll post them here. These are really hard & I'm not nearly as loose as I initially thought I was but it was a fun exercise. It's taking a random scribble & finding an image within that scribble. I'm not sure if it's the size of my tablet (3x5 intuos3) that keeps me from making confident strokes or what but I think like the first one feels stiff. I like the colors though! Anyway, I do like the second one, I had more fun with that one & felt more looser. My shoulders & limbs are really stiff from work so I did some arm exercises prior to drawing these. Yay drawing & exercise! I want to do more of these. Also, on another note, I plan to attend Concept Art Academy this coming fall & I'm really nervous. Gosh!

& a random doodle of me & a friend & our pets. (His are imaginary.)
